Terry Wahls

For four years, Terry Wahls, MD was confined to a tilt-recline wheelchair with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis. Using a diet and lifestyle program she designed specifically for her brain, she restored her health and has made it her mission to spread the word about her inspirational story of recovery (now she rides her bike to work everyday!). She is the author of The Wahls Protocol: How I Beat Progressive MS Using Paleo Principles and Functional Medicine, The Wahls Protocol: A Radical New Way to Treat All Chronic Autoimmune Conditions Using Paleo Principles, and the companion cookbook, The Wahls Protocol Cooking for Life. More than two million people have viewed her TEDx talk about the Wahls Protocol.

Dr. Wahls is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Iowa, where she teaches internal medicine, sees patients in a therapeutic lifestyle clinic, and conducts clinical trials. She is also the director for extended care and rehab service at the Veteran Affairs Iowa City Health Care System. She hosts the Wahls Protocol Seminar each August in Iowa, where she lives with her wife. Her son, Zach Wahls, is the author of the bestselling book “My Two Moms.”
